Today is a significant day for the Nordic circular economy and the entire European shared mobility sector. GoMore has acquired the European operations of the U.S.-based company Getaround, and with this acquisition, we become the continent’s largest car-sharing service.

And best of all, all of our Finnish users and our local team have played a major role in making this deal happen. Since its launch in 2020, GoMore has grown rapidly in Finland under conditions where many other car-sharing services have been forced to shut down.

Finland – From an Impossible Market to an International Playbook

The Finnish market has long been considered one of the most challenging in Europe for car-sharing services. Over the past six years, we have seen as many as six different operators withdraw from the country. Yet GoMore has succeeded where many others failed.

"This acquisition strengthens our position not only across Europe but also further in Finland… In terms of growth rate, this has been one of the fastest in our industry across Europe... Now we will have even more resources, technology, and expertise at our disposal here to develop our service for our Finnish users," says Boris Perkiö, Country Manager for GoMore in Finland and Estonia.

What does this mean for you, our users?

The acquisition announced today will have no impact on our Finnish users or our service in Finland; our local operations will continue as usual in every respect. Over time, however, expanding into new countries will bring many benefits for us here in Finland as well:

  • Seamless travel: Going forward, you can rely on GoMore in an increasing number of European destinations. Whether it’s a business trip to Brussels, a ski vacation in Norway, or a road trip along Spain’s sunny coast, you’ll find a car using the app you know and love.

  • More income for car owners: As millions of users from Central and Southern Europe travel to Finland, the rental rate for local car owners will increase even further.

  • Better technology: By combining our resources, we can develop the app and Keyless technology even faster.

Toward a More Sustainable Future

Both GoMore and Getaround share the same vision: cars are the world’s most underutilized resource. On average, they sit parked 95% of the time. We want to change that!

More and more Finns, especially the younger generation, are questioning the necessity of car ownership. Peer-to-peer car sharing offers a way to cover car expenses for those who own one, and flexible mobility for those who only need a car occasionally.

The new GoMore in a nutshell:

  • 11 countries: Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, and Estonia.

  • 70,000 cars: Europe’s largest selection of shared cars.

  • 5 million users: A growing community that believes in sharing.

Together, we have proven that car sharing is both smart and economically sustainable here in Finland as well. A big thank you to all of our nearly 200,000 Finnish users who have supported our growth and made this development possible. We will do everything we can to serve you even better in the future.

You have been part of building this success story, which is now taking Europe by storm. Let’s keep the journey going!
